As I am informed by this friend of my youth, Peter C. from Vancouver, the opposition in Canada will return with new force when the unprecedented gagging of Parliament, which is now in force, expires on January 26. As I am told the Liberal Party will come back with a new leader, Ignatieff, who is considered by many as charismatic. Let's hope so, Canada needs a new Trudeau. Though it was Trudeau that in a gesture of compromise back in 1982 allowed this monstrous provision in the Constitution that has now gagged parliament.
Meanwhile a new scandal has surfaced, with the Secret Services eavesdropping on private conversations. Apparently the Government Secret Services on the basis of the anti terror legislation have gained access and have been storing telephone and Internet conversations not only of those accused of terrorist activities, but on all the conversations of all citizens. An issue that needs to be addressed swiftly by Parliament. But Parliament is temporarily gagged. It's a shame...
Following this recent negative experience, all self respecting political parties in Canada should have at the top of their list of priorities the abolition of this anachronistic "prerogative of the Crown", to disolve parliament when some Prime Minister wants to save his ...
